I hate crappy products. –
Nice for the price.
Purchased this for enclosed patio / lanai in Florida. These patio heaters are very popular in Florida because there is a large part of the year when the evenings are just a bit too cold to sit outside. I did not want to spend $1200 on a real commercial model as it would only be used once a week at most. There is a unit on Amazon that goes for $179 and has decent reviews however some reported that it starts to rust rather quickly. I chose this higher priced model because it is made from the higher quality “304” stainless steel and should hold up better to the frequent rain and humidity in Florida. It took me 45min to assemble and was pretty straight forward, although the instructions are light on the details. The amount of hardware was much less than I expected and everything seemed to line up nicely. The heater fired right up and you CAN feel the heat 9ft away as advertised. I really like the pilotless lighting system. Time will tell how this hold up but I am expecting a few years of trouble free usage. I like that the company is here in Florida and specializes in patio accessories. Parts should be easy to come by as they make a lot of patio heaters (manufactured in China, serviced and distributed in Amelia Island, FL).For $300, this heater meets my expectations.

Spend $50 More & Buy The Deluxe Fire Sense Heater!
I was extremely disappointed in this product. It is absolutely not worth it! The parts are poorly made. It was almost impossible to put the heat shield together since the small nuts & bolts were not long enough to fit through 3 pieces of metal. I honestly had to wrestle the heat shield on the ground, and take it apart numerous times, since it all never lined up properly. When I finally did get the entire unit together, the ignition switch would not work, and the heater’s main burner would not light up. After numerous attempts to make it work, I boxed it up and sent it back. To give you some sense of what a pain it was to put this heater together, the same day as I put the patio heater together, I also assembled a Weber Gas Grill. My father and I had more trouble putting the patio heater together than we did the finely crafted Weber Grill! Now with a new beautiful grill and no patio heater, I was going to order a patio heater from Restoration Hardware since I thought they would offer a higher quality product. What I discovered when looking at their specs, the heater they offered was actually the Fire Sense Deluxe Patio Heater offered on Amazon for $50 more then this originally ordered heater. Restoration Hardware offered the Deluxe heater for $449, but did include a cover with it. I opted to order the unit from Amazon at $304.00 and it arrived yesterday. I immediately noticed the quality of parts is much higher, and the heat shield went together without a glitch, also better designed as it has fewer pieces. Overall this new Deluxe heater went together smoothly, except for one MAJOR flaw in the directions! The Deluxe Heater stand is not weighted, and there is a plastic unit on the bottom that needs be filled with sand. You should fill the plastic tote as your first step before doing anything else. I put the entire heater together & then was going to fill the plastic bottle at the end, but with the weight of the sand, I could not re-attach it (I was working by myself this time). I ended up having to take the heater apart again, so I could wrangle the base and attach the sand filled weight. The directions do not say anything about filling the plastic tote! My Deluxe Heater starts right up & provides excellent heat range!! The moral of this story is, spend $50 more and get the Deluxe Patio Heater, forget about this shoddy unit!

I would not purchase again!
I purchased this new Fire Sense heater to complement my new deck. It arrived as scheduled, went together without a problem. It turned on the first try and produced excellent heat. Now after @6 uses, it will not longer ignite with battery starter. Very disappointing!⁰

Good product
We had these outside this past weekend at 28 degrees and they held their own. They were plenty hot. Don’t sit too far away as the heat only travels so far. Assembly was not bad. The most difficult part was the aluminum top. Those sucked to screw together. I’m sure someone has a trick on how to do it more efficiently that I did. Keep a spare tank or 2 around as the propane freezes. Not a product issue, just how propane works.

Accompanying nuts and bolts were clearly labeled and easy to use but you need your own tools to …
After researching for a couple of days, I decided on the Fire Sense Commercial Patio heater to replace an older, somewhat cheaper model which recently stopped working despite numerous attempt to fix it. My last heater had fewer BTUs, had a pilot light ignition which didn’t work well, and didn’t have wheels which, it turns out, makes this Fire Sense model much easier to move around. Setup took about 60 minutes (as advertised) and setup instructions were clear and helpful. Accompanying nuts and bolts were clearly labeled and easy to use but you need your own tools to assemble. Only hick-up – you need a AAA battery to make the ignition work. I didn’t realize this until a second review of the instructions and after I had already written a help request email to Support.Overall, this patio heater is good looking and provides a great amount of heat – I may need to get a second one if I want everyone on my patio to be toasty warm. Based on the research, running this heater at the full 46,000 BTU will provide close to 10 hours of heat but it’s possible to use a smaller flame and extend this time estimate. My biggest fear is the patio heater’s long term weather resistance. Living close to the coast in California makes things rust a little more quickly and rust is not covered in the warranty.I’ll report back once this heater has been in use a few times. Satisfied customer so far.2/26/2017 – UpdateThe propane pressure is now irregular and the heater is no longer working properly. The heater will light up perfectly but the BTU pressure drops after a few minutes and while the heater will stay lit, large yellow flames are replacing what should be high pressure ones. I have tried a new propane bottle with the same results. Apparently the regulator or thermocouple is to blame. I’ll reach out to Fire Sense to learn more since the heater should be covered under the 1 year warranty.

So, here’s the issue. I searched online and compared features of about 10 of these types of products. I could have purchased one for almost half the price from Canadian Tire, about 5 minutes from my house, but out of the all the reviews, most said the igniter doesn’t work. This item had mostly good reviews and it claimed to be 18 feet of heat and a commercial version.Well, the igniter doesn’t work. The battery is in correctly but there isn’t even a clicking noise to tell me its attempting to ignite the burner. So, I’m going to have to take this thing apart and try to find the problem, and if I can’t, I will have to do what everyone else does and use a long trigger lighter for candles and BBQ’s.No way there is 18 feet diameter heating as it suggests on the ordering page.I do not like the dial on it because there is no clear indication of what is OFF and what is ON. The only clear line is the line of calibration.Looks nice, is a little better quality than some of the local versions, BUT, the extra weight is from putting water in the base, not from better material.Oh yes, in the instructions, it tells you that most of the parts are pre-assembled. NOTHING is PRE-Assembled!!!!!!!!!!In final, the item works but only in a small area where my deck couches and chairs are, but it doesn’t reach even 10 feet, where at least it could temporarily keep people a bit warm in the winter when they get out of the hot tub, at least until they did off and put on a robe, which is primarily what this was purchased for.Regards,Glenn
